Quote of the Day

Wisdom comes to those who are able to make their own decisions from within, not those guided by public opinion.

From the peak of one of my favorite mountains to hike in Kelowna. Actually, I think Knox Mountain was my first hike when I was a kid. I love the hike up to the highest lookout point, mainly because I love seeing how as I walk I higher up I see more of the town. I guess that can be said about most hikes those but this one always feels special to me, maybe because of all the memories or because whenever I hike it some of my favorite people are with me.

My first big trip was to the Big Apple, as in New York. I had gone on beach bound vacations before but this was my first real trip where I really felt like more than just a tourist, I felt like a real traveler. I was just completely awestruck with every new sight. I fell in with the buildings and the history and culture and I just wanted to keep experiencing more. After the trip, as the lingering dazzle of travel passed I knew that I wanted to experience it again; I wanted to see more and try more and that I wanted my life to be filled with memories of being in awe of the world.

Smallville – The story of a young Clark Kent, before he becomes the great hero Superman. Between trying to live a typical teenage life in Smallville, Kansas, and learning to control his powers, Clark tries to find his place in the world while also trying to accept his alien heritage. Dealing with friends, love, and the strange phenomena that fill Smallville, Clark learns who he is and accepts who is to become.

This is my absolute, all-time favorite show; I’ve watched all 10 seasons like 5 times and favorite episodes and seasons who knows how many more times. Really, Smallville is my go-to show to watch I guess when I really need a pick me up. I can’t call it some turning point in TV history or that the stories have the most unbelievable plots ever, but that’s not what it is. Just watching the journey of all the characters going from being these confused kids into growing into confident people who do extraordinary things. See Clark go from bubbling teenager to Superman or his best friend Chloe going from invisible to invaluable. It’s the journey of a superhero and the people in his life, just watching it there are always these moments that just fill you with hope and you can’t help but smile.

There is so much more to this show than the origin of Superman. Smallville has great stories, amazing characters and just so many different levels to it that just gets me, and other people, totally hooked. If you haven’t seen it seen or finished giving it a chance I think it’s worth a look, maybe you’ll get that warm feeling too.

Quote of the Day

I can be loud, and at times I’m a little bossy. So someone might wonder why a person of your God-like caliber would be with a woman who is so imperfect. Well don’t take this the wrong way but you come with some baggage of your own and it’s made me a better person. Just like being with me will make you a greater man and a superhero.

She is willing to do anything to get to the truth and get her story. At least that is how DC comics describes her and I agree.

Yes, she is Superman’s love interest, the pair being one of personal favorite love stories, but first and foremost, Lois Lane is a self-made badass. Right from the beginning, when she was introduced in the pre-feminist times of the 50’s, Lois Lane has been ahead of her times as a strong working woman. She faces challenges and never gives, and that is probably what lands her into unthinkably dangerous situations but something to admire as brave. She stands up for what she believes in, the truth, and she fights to be heard and to be seen as an equal.

But it’s not only her strength that is worth looking up to, there is also the layer of love and compassion. She is the only woman meant for Superman because she’s always stood by his side, not behind him or trying to control him but rather as his partner. She’s madly in love and sometimes that’s the scariest thing of all. She portrays admirable qualities of love, between loyalty and trust and even vulnerability. Her love for the Man of Steel slash bubbling reporter, Clark Kent, always comes off as pure.

Lois Lane is an embodiment of having it all; she is her own woman driven by her career but she has a romantic side and isn’t ashamed of being saved, probably because she does a little of her own saving from time to time too. She is a female character that has always been portrayed as a human girl who is ambitious, strong, loyal and smart, and that’s what makes her so amazing, a girls role model of sorts. I know for me personally there are a lot of things about Lois Lane that I wish to aspire to.

Quote of the Day

I’m not dwelling on revenge for past atrocities or looking ahead to what I can gain from a few tax breaks. Drilling oil wells in the ocean, putting up razor wire fences to keep out immigrants who only want what our grandparents wanted. In this world of armchair bloggers who’ve created a generation of critics instead of leaders, I’m actually doing something. Right here, right now, for the city. For my country. And I’m not doing it alone. You’re damn right I’m a hero.
